1. TEAM COMPOSITION
The St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim badminton teams for the Inter-College Championship were selected based on merit demonstrated during the college’s Intramural Tournament. The Men’s Team comprised seven players: Sreyash Morudkar, Vignesh Naik, Vernon Monteiro, Bhavesh Naik, Tanmay Kankonkar, Reagan Rodrigues, and Chetan Sawant. The Women’s Team
consisted of three players: Zuneera Patvekar, Tanvi Parab, and Sakshi Nayak.

2. PREPARATION & PRACTICE MATCHES:
In preparation for the championship, both teams engaged in a series of practice matches against local colleges. The Men’s Team undertook three preparatory fixtures: they played against MES College at the MES College campus, against Fr. Agnel College at the Fr. Agnel College campus in Pilar, and against CES College at the Fatorda Indoor Stadium. The Women’s Team played two practice matches: one against MES College at their campus and another against Carmel College at the Carmel College campus in Nuvem.

3. TOURNAMENT PERFORMANCE & RESULTS:
The Men’s Team commenced their tournament campaign against Saraswat Caculo College, Mapusa. The tie saw Vernon Monteiro lose the opening singles match. Sreyash Morudkar secured victory in the second singles match, leveling the score. Sreyash Morudkar and Bhavesh Naik then combined to win the third match, a doubles encounter, giving Cortalim the lead. However, Bhavesh Naik lost the fourth singles match, bringing the tie level once more. In the decisive fifth doubles match, Vignesh Naik and Reagan Rodrigues were defeated. Consequently, the Men’s Team lost the tie 3-2 and were eliminated from the tournament. The Women’s Team
faced elimination after their first two matches; Zuneera Patvekar lost the opening singles match, followed by Tanvi Parab losing the second singles match, resulting in a 2-0 loss for the tie and their exit from the competition.

4. OBSERVATIONS & OVERALL ASSESSMENT

• Men’s Team: Despite the 3-2 loss in a closely contested tie against Saraswat Caculo College, the team displayed commendable spirit and skill. Victories by Sreyash Morudkar (singles) and the doubles pair of Sreyash Morudkar & Bhavesh Naik highlighted the team’s potential. The overall performance was satisfying and creditable, demonstrating significant effort and competitive spirit.
• Women’s Team: Faced strong opposition resulting in a 2-0 defeat. Zuneera Patvekar and Tanvi Parab competed earnestly. The experience gained at this level is invaluable for future development.
• Overall: Both teams represented St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim with dedication and sportsmanship. Participation in this university-level championship provided crucial exposure and high-level competition experience for all players. The preparatory practice matches against esteemed local colleges were highly beneficial.
