Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry
B.Sc. (Hons.) Chemistry or Bachelor of Science Honours in Chemistry is an undergraduate Chemistry course. Chemistry is the science of the composition, structure, properties, and reactions of matter, especially of atomic and molecular systems. During the program, it is taken up the study of various theories of chemistry and its branches, including physical chemistry, environmental chemistry, inorganic and organic chemistry, etc. in addition to the study of the normal Bachelor of Science subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Applications, too. B.Sc. (Hons.) (Chemistry) degree course also includes the study of atomic structure, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, the chemistry of various elements, classes of organic compounds, electrochemistry, coordination chemistry, quantum mechanics, spectroscopy, computer applications in chemistry, method of chemical analysis, environmental and biochemistry, etc. The degree is three years of duration and also course syllabus (Theoryplus Practical) is divided into three years. After completing the course candidates have a lot of career opportunities in different spheres.
The Department of Chemistry at St. Joseph Vaz College is dedicated to the instruction, training, and intellectual growth of undergraduate students.
To advance the intellectual, cultural, and economic condition of the state, and nation through the discovery and development of new knowledge in the field of chemistry.
• To consider the latest scientific advances and to impart new concepts in the department’s undergraduate curricula
• To develop the next generation of academic, industrial, and government laboratory chemists who will be called upon to solve new problems
• Increase the depth and breadth of outreach activities and opportunities for technology transfer from the faculty and staff to the people of the state, and nation
• Practice of Green Chemistry and facilitate interdisciplinary research
