International Microorganisms Day 2025
The Department of Microbiology at St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim organized a seminar to celebrate International Microorganisms Day 2025 on 17th September 2025.
Dr. Priya D’Costa, Assistant Professor of Marine Microbiology at the School of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, Goa University, delivered a seminar on “Marine Microbiomes: Ecological and Biotechnological Perspectives.” In her talk, she emphasized the ecological significance of marine microbiomes and their promising applications in biotechnology.
Ms. Viona Correia, Officiating Principal, delivered the welcome address, while Dr. Alisha Satwani, Assistant Professor in Microbiology, introduced the Chief Guest. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Ms. Vaishnavi Bale, President of the MBSI student unit. The programme was compered by Ms. Astrid Fernandes, S.Y. B. Sc Microbiology student.
As part of the celebration, the department also organized various competitions, including a Clay Model Making Competition, a Poster Competition, and Lab Legends: Micro Edition 1.0. These events witnessed enthusiastic participation from both college and school students. Prizes were announced by Ms. Arzoo Mulla, Assistant Professor in Microbiology.
The programme was coordinated by Dr. Aureen R. Lemos Godinho Gomes, Assistant Professor in Microbiology and Faculty Coordinator of MBSI. The celebration not only highlighted the importance of microorganisms but also served as a platform for students to exhibit their scientific creativity and knowledge.
