Intramural Badminton

The Department of Physical Education and Sports of St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim-Goa, successfully organized the Intramural Badminton Tournament 2026 for both Men and Women categories on 2nd and 3rd July 2026 respectively. The tournament was held at MES Vasant Joshi college badminton court with the aim of promoting sportsmanship, physical fitness, and healthy competition among the students. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation, with 9 male and 5 female students competing fiercely across various matches. The tournament followed a knockout format, and all matches were officiated by the physical education instructor Mr Infancio Correia with the students under the guidance of Dr. Elroy Pinto, College Director of
Physical Education and Sports.

The Men’s Tournament was held on 2nd July 2026 with 9 participants displaying exceptional skill, agility, and sportsmanship. The competition witnessed intense rallies, powerful smashes, and strategic gameplay that kept the audience engaged throughout the day. In the Men’s Final, Bhavesh Naik emerged as the champion by defeating Reagan Rodrigues in a well-contested match. The third-place match was played between Raj Singh and Caven, where Raj Singh secured the third position with a convincing victory.

The Women’s Tournament was conducted on 3rd July 2026 with 5 participants who displayed remarkable determination and enthusiasm on the court. Despite the smaller number of entries, the matches were closely contested and reflected the growing interest in badminton among female students of the college. In the Women’s Final, Zuneeera Patvekar emerged victorious by
defeating Jesiah Guru in an exciting finale. The third-place match was played between Aditi and Sakshi Nayak, where Sakshi Nayak secured the third position with a strong performance.

The overall winners of the tournament were Bhavesh Naik (Men’s Champion) and Zuneeera Patvekar (Women’s Champion). Reagan Rodrigues and Jesiah Guru were declared Runners-Up in the Men’s and Women’s categories respectively, while Raj Singh and Sakshi Nayak secured the third place in their respective categories. The tournament was conducted under the inspiring

tagline “Too swift to hit, too strong to beat” – TEAM SJVC, which truly reflected the spirit and competitive energy displayed by all the participants.

The Intramural Badminton Tournament 2026 proved to be a resounding success, as it not only identified talented players but also fostered a spirit of camaraderie and healthy competition among the students.
