World Microbiome Day Celebrated at St. Joseph Vaz College
To commemorate World Microbiome Day, observed annually on 27th June, the Department of Microbiology, St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, Goa, in collaboration with MBSI, organized a series of educational activities for SYBSc and TYBSc Microbiology students.
As part of the celebrations, a Poster Presentation on different microbiomes was held on 8th July 2026, where students showcased posters on the soil, oral, marine, human gut, skin and plant & animal microbiomes. The students explained the importance of these microbiomes to students, teaching faculty and non-teaching staff, creating awareness about the vital role of microorganisms in human health and the environment.
The department also organized Microbiome Bingo and Microbe Match on 9th July 2026. These interactive, game-based learning activities engaged students in reinforcing microbiome concepts and understanding the beneficial roles of microorganisms through teamwork and active participation.
The celebrations provided an enjoyable platform for scientific learning, enhanced students communication and analytical skills, and promoted awareness of the microbiomes in everyday life.
