Microbe Match – A Microbiome Learning Activity
The Department of Microbiology, St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, Goa, organized “Microbe Match”, an interactive learning activity for the SYBSc and TYBSc Microbiology students with the objective of enhancing their understanding of beneficial microorganisms and their roles in different microbiomes. The event was held on 09/07/2026 in Microbiology Lab 2.
A total of 6 teams, comprising 3 students each, enthusiastically participated in the activity. Each team was provided with a set of microorganism cards and a corresponding set of function cards. The participants were required to correctly match each microorganism with its respective function within the stipulated time. The activity encouraged teamwork, critical thinking, and
the application of microbiological concepts in a fun and engaging manner.
The students actively participated throughout the event and displayed a commendable understanding of the subject. The activity served as an enjoyable learning experience while creating awareness about the importance of microbiomes and the beneficial roles of microorganisms in human health and the environment.
Based on accuracy and completion time, the winners were declared as follows:
• First Place: Nisha Maity, Chetan Sawant and Divyaksh Gowda
• Second Place: Sunakshi Govekar, Anish Maurya and Raghav Shirodkar
• Third Place: Fiona Pereira. Niola Sequeira and Abhishek Chawdary
The activity was well received by the students and successfully met its objective of reinforcing microbiological concepts through an interactive, activity-based approach. It provided an effective platform for collaborative learning and made the study of microbiomes both informative and enjoyable
