Christmas Celebrations at the Adopted Village

The Outreach and Extension Cell, in collaboration with the Student Council of St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, organised Christmas Celebration Programme at the adopted village of Dabolim (Ward No. 2), of the Chicalim Village Panchayat, on 13 th December 2025 at 4:00 p.m. The programme was compered by Ms. Anezia Barreto, T.Y.B.Sc. student, who effectively anchored the entire event.

The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from college students, who conducted a joyful Christmas party for the children of the village. Christmas kits comprising stationery items and eatables were distributed to the children. The programme also featured recreational activities such as carol singing, interactive games, and spot prizes, creating a lively and festive atmosphere.

As an integral part of the celebration, a Christmas Dish Cooking Competition was organised for the community to promote festive creativity and strengthen community bonding. The competition highlighted the rich culinary heritage associated with Christmas, with
participants presenting a wide variety of traditional and innovative Christmas-themed dishes. The entries were evaluated by an expert judging panel based on four criteria: taste, Christmas theme and creativity ,presentation , and texture. Participants shared personal anecdotes and explained the cultural and generational significance of their dishes. The competition saw active participation from Maria Cruz, Isabelle Fernandes, Aisha Fernandes, Pricyla Miranda, Precy Souza, Sania Lucas, Swizel Xavier, and Martina Fernandes. Their contributions reflected culinary creativity while reinforcing the preservation of traditional festive recipes and the use of locally sourced ingredients, thereby sustaining cultural heritage and encouraging community participation.

The Convenor of the Outreach and Extension Cell, Ms. Manali Acharya, felicitated Ms. Nancy, Ms. Sabina, and Ms. Precy in appreciation of their dedicated efforts and efficient coordination, which contributed significantly to the successful execution of the programme. The winners were announced after evaluation, with Maria Cruz securing first place, followed by Sania Lucas in second place and Precy Souza in third place. The judging panel comprised Ms. Viona Correia, Officiating Principal, and Ms. Aureen Gomes, Co-Convenor of the Outreach and Extension Cell.

Overall, the Christmas celebration at the adopted village was a resounding success, fostering meaningful interaction between the college and the local community and reinforcing the institution’s commitment to social outreach. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Rev. Fr. Bolmax Pereira. The Outreach and Extension Cell continues to undertake various initiatives aimed at uplifting and engaging the adopted village through sustained, community-oriented programmes.
