College Organizes Insightful Session on Disaster Risk Management Cycle

The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) Cell of St. Joseph Vaz College successfully hosted an orientation session titled “Understanding the Disaster Management Cycle” on Monday, December 15, 2025. The event, held at the
college’s Seminar Hall, was designed to enlighten students on the critical aspects of disaster management, risk assessment, and mitigation strategies.

The esteemed resource person for the session was Dr. S. Prasanna Kumar. Dr. Kumar delivered an insightful and engaging presentation that covered several key areas of disaster management:

-The methods for identifying, analyzing, and evaluating risks specific to the local region.
-Strategies encompassing both structural and non-structural mitigation, alongside the crucial role of early warning systems.
-A discussion on the escalating threat posed by climate change, which increases the frequency and intensity of various hazards.

The orientation focused on understanding the comprehensive Disaster Management Risk cycle.

The session concluded, successfully fostering a deeper understanding of both individual and institutional roles required to create a disaster-resilient environment. The event was a significant step toward equipping students with essential knowledge on coping with an adapting to natural and anthropogenic hazards.
