CPR and First Aid Training

The Red Ribbon Club of St. Joseph Vaz College, in association with Victor Hospital Margao, organized a CPR and First Aid Training session at the college Seminar Hall on January 28, 2025. The session commenced with a short prayer service, followed by the welcoming of the guests on the dais.

The resource person for the session was Dr. Rajas Virginkar, a highly experienced consultant emergency physician in the Emergency Department, who was accompanied by Nurse Ms. Alisha Pereira and Mr. Bahul Niravel, Senior Customer Relations Executive at Victor Hospital. The guests were welcomed with potted plants by Ms. Viona Correia, the IQAC Coordinator. The event saw a participation of 70 students from St. Joseph Vaz College and St. Joseph Vaz Institute of Education.

Dr. Virginkar delivered an insightful talk on CPR and Basic Life Support (BLS), focusing on essential life-saving techniques. Nurse Alisha Pereira demonstrated these techniques, particularly focusing on hands-on practice with the mannequin, and several students actively participated in practicing the techniques under the guidance of Dr. Virginkar and Nurse Pereira.

The second part of the training was dedicated to First Aid, covering topics such as the proper use of a first aid kit, protocols for handling burns, dog bites, snake bites, choking, high-grade fever, hypoglycemia, fractures, wounds, injuries, drowning, and electric shock. Students received hands-on training in these critical areas, enhancing their practical skills for emergency situations. The session concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Convenor and College Counsellor, Ms. Aroma Diniz. The event proved to be a valuable learning experience, equipping students with practical knowledge and confidence to handle emergencies effectively.

Overall, the CPR and First Aid training session was a great success, with students gaining essential life-saving skills that could prove crucial in real-life situations.
