Free Health Camp for its Adopted Village

The Outreach and Extension Cell of St. Joseph Vaz College, in collaboration with the Primary Health Center of Cortalim and the Sub District Hospital of Chicalim, organized a Free Health Camp on 26th January 2025 at the Holy Cross Chapel premises, Dabolim from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and aimed to provide essential healthcare services to the residents of its adopted village, Ward No. 2, VP Chicalim – Goa.

A total of 60 patients benefitted from the camp, which offered services such as Blood Sugar Testing, Haemoglobin Testing, Blood Pressure Monitoring, Breast Cancer Screening for Women, Ayurvedic consultations, and ophthalmic check-ups. The event was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Dr. Soma Datta, Medical Officer, Primary Health Center, Cortalim; Dr. Aruna Zore, Ayurvedic Physician, Primary Health Center, Cortalim and their team, along with the staff of Sub District Hospital of Chicalim. Their professional expertise and commitment to community health were instrumental in the success of the camp.

Adding to the health-related services, the students of Department of Microbiology, SJVC conducted “Gut Microbiome Awareness Activity,” educating patients about the role of prebiotic and probiotic foods in maintaining a healthy gut. This interactive session encouraged residents to adopt a balanced and gut-friendly diet.

The Department of Library also contributed to the event by organizing the “SJVC Library on Wheels,” an initiative aimed at promoting reading habits among children. Young attendees were given the opportunity to borrow books, fostering a love for literature and learning.

The Health Camp reflected the college’s commitment to community welfare and holistic development.
