Microbiome Bingo
The Department of Microbiology, St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, Goa, organized an interactive learning activity titled “Microbiome Bingo” as a part of the World Microbiome Day celebration for the SYBSc and TYBSc Microbiology students. The activity was held on 09/07/2026 in Microbiology Lab 2. The objective of the activity was to reinforce students’ understanding of microbiome-related concepts through a fun and engaging game-based learning approach.
A total of 18 students, forming 6 teams of 3 members each, participated in the event. Each team received a unique Bingo card containing microbiome-related terms. The moderator read out clues and definitions, and participants identified and marked the corresponding terms on their cards. The activity encouraged quick thinking, teamwork, and recall of microbiology concepts.
The competition concluded with the following results:
• First Place: Kanak Shirodkar, Vaishnavi Bale and Vishakha Bandivadekar
• Second Place: Nisha Maity, Chetan Sawant and Divyaksh Gowda
• Third Place: Menika Gurav and Astrid Fernandes
The students actively participated throughout the session and displayed great enthusiasm. The activity provided an enjoyable learning experience while increasing awareness of the different microbiomes and their significance. It also promoted active participation, healthy competition and collaborative learning among the students.
Overall, the Microbiome Bingo activity was successfully conducted and effectively achieved its objective of making microbiome education interactive, engaging and memorable.
