Monsoon Photography Competition

The Department of Microbiology at St. Joseph Vaz College, in association with the Microbiologists Society of India (MBSI), successfully organized a Monsoon Photography Competition on 23rd July 2025.

The theme for the competition, “Monsoon Mysteries: Microbes in Focus”, aimed to merge scientific curiosity with artistic expression by encouraging students to capture the unseen and often overlooked microbial world that thrives during the monsoon season. Participants were asked to submit high-quality A4-size photo prints on photo paper, with each photo titled to reflect the essence of the captured moment.

As per the rules, each participant was allowed a maximum of two entries. The competition received an impressive number of entries, showcasing a wide variety of interpretations. The submissions were judged based on theme and relevance, creativity and style, impact and colour balance. The first and second place winners were selected and awarded prizes in recognition of their outstanding entries.
1st prize: Khushnuma Baig
2nd prize: Fiona Pereira

Overall, the Monsoon Photography Competition served not only as a platform for creative expression but also as an innovative way to promote microbiological awareness among students. It was a unique blend of science and art, and its success has paved the way for more such interdisciplinary events in the future.
