National Librarian Day
The Department of Library at St. Joseph Vaz College celebrated National Librarian’s Day on 12th August 2025 in the college library from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. A total of 19 students were present for the programme. The event was compered by Ms. Kshitija Gawas of
F.Y.B.Sc., and programme began with a prayer service led by Mr. Ludiloy Periera, Library Staff. The compere shared insights about Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library and Information Science in India, and explained how his Five Laws of Library Science continue to guide librarians in their work today. She also highlighted the recent inauguration of the Library Chatbot and encouraged students to make active use of it as readers.
The Officiating Principal, Ms. Viona Corriea, garlanded the photograph of Dr. Ranganathan and officially launched the Digital Corner. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the College Librarian, Mrs. Manali Acharya, who expressed gratitude to all attendees and reminded them of the importance of using library resources. The event ended with the inspiring quote of Dr. Ranganathan: “A library is not a luxury but a necessity of life.”
On this occasion, an AI E-Poster Competition was also organised, in which 17 students enthusiastically participated by entering prompts into AI tools to generate creative images based on the theme. Three winners were declared: first place was bagged by Raghav
Shirodkar, second place shared by Niola Sequiera and Suraj Rathod, and third place by Divyaksh Gowda.
