Outreach and Extension Cell Activity
The Outreach and Extension Cell of St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, organized a series of community-based activities for the children and residents of its adopted village, Ward No. 2, VP Chicalim-Goa, on December 20, 2024. The event, held at the Holy Cross Chapel premises in Dabolim, was marked by enthusiastic participation from over 50 residents of the community, including children and adults from diverse backgrounds.
The program commenced with a warm welcome address by the Acting Principal, Ms. Angela Serrao, followed by an address by the Convenor of the Outreach and Extension Cell, Dr. Aureen Lemos Godinho Gomes, who shared insights on the cell’s initiatives and the planned activities for the adopted village.
The event was graced by notable attendees, including Mr. Roman Vaz, Panch Member of Ward No. 11; Mr. Jevino Fernandes, President of the Holy Cross Chapel Committee; and ward members Mrs. Sabina Fernandes, Mrs. Nancy Da Gama, and Mrs. Precy Souza, who lent their support to the initiative.
Ms. Manali Acharya, the college librarian, introduced the Mobile Library Book Drive, a unique endeavor aimed at encouraging a love for reading among school children. The event seamlessly transitioned into a festive Christmas celebration featuring carol singing, fun games for children, and energetic singing and dance performances by the students of St. Joseph Vaz College, creating a joyful atmosphere.
Fr. Bolmax Pereira delivered an inspiring Christmas message, emphasizing the values of love, unity, and sharing during the festive season. The program concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Ms. Manali Acharya, Co-Convenor of the Outreach and Extension Cell,
expressing gratitude to the residents and participants.
The event saw active involvement from 14 staff members and 17 BSc students from St. Joseph Vaz College, who meticulously organized and executed the program. Ms. Anezia Barreto, a second-year BSc student, compered the event with grace, ensuring its smooth flow. This outreach initiative was a significant step in strengthening community engagement, fostering inclusivity, and spreading festive cheer, reaffirming St. Joseph Vaz College’s commitment to holistic education and community service.
