Poster Presentation
To commemorate World Microbiome Day, celebrated annually on 27th June, the Department of Microbiology, St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, Goa in collaboration with MBSI, organized a Poster Presentation on Different Microbiomes for the Second Year (SYBSc) and Third Year (TYBSc) B.Sc. Microbiology students. The activity was conducted on 08th July 2026 at 2:15 p.m. in the Seminar Hall.
The students presented six informative posters on various microbiomes, highlighting their significance in human health and the environment. The topics presented were:
• Soil Microbiome
• Oral Microbiome Matters: Health Begins in the Mouth
• Tiny Giants of the Sea: Marine Microbiome
• Human Gut Microbiome
• Skin Microbiome
• Plant and Animal Microbiome
During the event, the students explained the concepts, importance and applications of each microbiome to fellow students, teaching faculty, and non-teaching staff of the college. The presentations encouraged interaction, discussion, and knowledge sharing, helping the audience understand the crucial role of microorganisms in maintaining the health of humans, plants, animals, and ecosystems.
The posters were evaluated based on their scientific content, creativity, presentation and clarity of explanation. The winners of the competition were:
First Prize: Akanksha Saroj, Abhishek Chawdary, Niola Sequeira and Fiona Pereira
Second Prize: Gretchen Fernandes, Astrid Fernandes and Menika Gurav
Third Prize: Vaishnavi Bale, Sunakshi Govekar, Anisha Maurya, Kanak Shirodkar and
Sakshi Nayak
The activity successfully created awareness about the diversity and importance of microbiomes while enhancing the communication and presentation skills of the participating students. The event was well received by the audience and effectively celebrated the spirit of World Microbiome Day through scientific learning and outreach.
