As part of the ongoing Reading Month Celebrations, the Department of Library of St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, organized an innovative reading activity on 20th June 2026 at the college entrance lobby, encouraging students and staff to pause for a moment, read, and reflect on the timeless wisdom of Mahatma Gandhi.

A display featuring a collection of Gandhiji’s inspiring thoughts and values was set up at the entrance, drawing the attention of members of the college community as they entered the campus. Participants were invited to carefully read each quote and place a  sticker beside the quotation that resonated with them the most. The activity witnessed enthusiastic participation from both students and staff. Its unique and interactive format encouraged readers to go through every quote before making their choice, thereby promoting thoughtful reading and reflection. Many participants appreciated the opportunity to engage with Gandhiji’s teachings on truth, non-violence, self-discipline, and social responsibility in a simple yet meaningful way.

The initiative was designed to promote reading beyond academic requirements and to demonstrate how even a few moments spent reading can inspire deeper thinking and personal growth. By transforming a common passage area into a space for reflection and engagement, the library successfully encouraged the college community to connect with the power of words and ideas.

The Department of Library continues to introduce innovative activities that nurture a culture of reading and lifelong learning among its users. Through such initiatives, the library aims to inspire readers to explore new perspectives, broaden their horizons, and develop intellectually and personally.

The event was another successful addition to the Reading Month celebrations after the ongoing State Level Digital Detox Challenge, reaffirming the library’s commitment to fostering a vibrant reading culture on campus. As the Library Department believes, every page read is a step towards greater knowledge, wisdom, and self-development.
