Reading Month Celebrations

The Library Department at St. Joseph Vaz College commemorated National Reading Month from June 19th to July 18th, 2024, with a variety of activities. Mrs. Manali Acharya, the college librarian, authored an article detailing the significance of National Reading Month and P.N. Panicker, which was published in local newspapers. Additionally, talks on the importance of reading were given to the students of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour School and its Higher Secondary School. A video showcasing new arrivals was shared with all staff and students via social media.

A talk emphasizing the importance of reading was also presented to the D.El.Ed students of St. Joseph Vaz Institute of Education in Cortalim, highlighting how crucial reading is for future teachers. A link to take the Reading Pledge and download a certificate was distributed to all patrons.

During the second week, St. Joseph Vaz College students received a similar talk. In the third week, Ms. Jolene Fernandes, lecturer at the St. Joseph Vaz Institute of Education, gave a talk on Reading Mastery: Judging and Improving Your Skills. The final week featured a book hunt competition, where students were given bibliographic details and had to find the books quickly, with the fastest team winning. Additionally, Mrs. Ruchira Hegde, a lecturer at the St. Joseph Vaz Institute of Education, gave a talk on “The Mother Tongue Advantage: Why Reading in Our Native Language Matters.” The entire month was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the college.
