St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim Cycles to Double Glory

St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim, a purely science (B.Sc.) college established only in 2017, has powered to its second consecutive Goa University Inter-College Cycling Championship title. This win cements a remarkable four-year podium streak, following bronze medals in the two preceding years.

Proving that scientific rigor and sporting excellence can coexist, the college’s holistic model was on full display. The 2025 team clinched gold, while Vignesh Naik and Bhavesh Naik won individual bronze and silver medals, respectively. Other team members in the winning team were Shreyas Morudkar (5th), Raj Singh (7th), Vernon Monteiro (9th), Anish Maurya (13th), Sangarsh Kadav (20th), Veron Rocha (22nd) and Chetan Sharma (39th). The college has a strong record of sending cyclists to national competitions.

The victory is credited to a dedicated support system led by Administrator Rev. Prof. Simao Diniz and Officiating Principal Ms. Viona Correia. Key mentors who were instrumental in the podium finishes over the years include Instructor of Physical Education, Mr. Infancio Correia, and coach Mr. Deepak Ashanagar, with crucial backing from all teaching and non-teaching staff of the college.

The college consciously creates schedules that allow students to excel in both arenas. This balanced approach is validated by alumni wherein past team winners are now pursuing M.Sc. degrees or working in industries, having graduated with strong academic records.

St. Joseph Vaz College demonstrates that with the right support, even a young, specialized institution can champion all-round student development, producing champions both in sport and in science.
