Talk on Haloextremozymes: Powerful Enzymes from Salt-Loving Archaea

The Research Development and Innovation (RDI) Cell, in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology of St. Joseph Vaz College, organized an insightful talk on the topic “Haloextremozymes: Powerful Enzymes from Salt-Loving Archaea” on 26th February 2026 at 12:15 pm in the F2 classroom. The session was delivered by Dr. Alisha Satwani. During the session, Dr. Alisha shared her expertise on haloarchaea and highlighted the immense potential of haloextremozymes in biotechnology. She elaborated on her PhD research, providing valuable insights into haloarchaeal cellulases and xylanases, along with their industrial and biotechnological applications. Her presentation effectively connected fundamental microbiological concepts with real-world research applications. The talk was attended by 12 TY BSc Microbiology students. The session was highly interactive, with students actively engaging, asking questions, and expressing curiosity about extremophiles and enzyme applications. The session concluded at 1:15 pm, leaving students with enhanced understanding and motivation towards research in extremozymes and archaea.
