The Department of Library at St. Joseph Vaz College and St. Joseph Vaz Institute of Education, Cortalim Goa in collaboration with IQAC organised a competition to commemorate the World Paper Bag Day on 12^th July 2023, focusing on the making of paper bags using recycled newspapers. Open to students from B.Sc. and D.El.Ed programs, the competition aimed to foster eco-friendly practices, emphasize the use of recyclable materials, and raise awareness about the detrimental effects of plastic on the environment. Participants were required to craft paper bags from old newspapers, sell them to vendors/staff at a minimal cost, and subsequently deliver the proceeds to the College Librarian which would be utilised as green environment initiative.

All participants received e-certificates, and the top three sales performers were Khushnuma Baig, Sanjana Sharma, and Damini Rajput respectively. The competition achieved success in cultivating responsible citizenship and promoting environmental conservation, while also serving as a platform for creative expression and fostering values of sustainability and environmental consciousness among students.
