The Botany Department of St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim organised a field trip to Anjuna beach, on 11^th September 2023 for the F.Y. and S.Y.B.Sc. students as a part of the short-term certificate course, Skill Development in Algae.The students were accompanied by Prof. Maria Fonseca (Principal),Dr. Maria Cineola Fernandes (Assistant Professor in Botany), Mr. Allan J. Almeida(Assistant Professor in Botany) and Field Plant collector Mr. Nelson Antao. The students along with the teachers observed diversity of algae growing attached on the rocks. The different algal species like Ulvafasciata, Enteromorpha intestinalis, Chaemtomorpha media,Cladophora rugulosa, Centrocerosclalvuatum, Porphyravietnamensis, Polysiphoniasp. were identified and some were collected and brought to the Botany lab for further practical sessions to be conducted on the same. The field trip provided practical experience to students in observation and collection of algae. This also made them aware about the ecological distribution of algae and their interaction with the environment.
