Knowing More About Cancer

The Counselling Cell of St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim organized an Informative Webinar on, ‘Knowing More About Cancer’ on 04th February 2022 to mark World Cancer Day. The Webinar began at 11 a. m. via Google meet, and various institutions as well as other individuals from various fields were invited to participate in the webinar. The resource person was the session was Dr. Brendan Peroz (MBBS, MD Pathology), Resident Doctor at Goa Medical College, who gave the participants an insight on different types of cancers, the progression of the disease, its causes, symptoms, treatment, preventive measures and also spoke of the myths related to Cancer. The Participants also had questions and queries regarding Cancer and its causes, treatment etc. which were accommodated and addressed to. The resource person also advised the participants to be cautious and not to be ignorant with health related concerns, along with suggesting good health and hygiene practices, tips on following a healthy diet, self-examination methods (to check for lumps etc.), Pathological and non- Pathological tests, check-ups etc.

The participants for the webinar included students and Faculty of St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa-Goa, Government College of Arts, science, and commerce Khandola Marcel, DCT’s Dhempe College of Arts & Science, Miramar, Panaji Goa, Ganpat Parsekar college of Education, Harmal-Goa, C.E.S College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim, Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Quepem-Goa, Goa College of Art, Pope John XXIII High School, Our Lady Mother of the Poor High School Tilamol, Pope John XXIII Higher Secondary School, and St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim– Goa, who participated in large numbers. There were other individuals and organizations like members of Menezes Hospital, Margao-Goa etc. that also engaged in this webinar.

The webinar ended by 12 p.m. with the Vote of Thanks given by our T.Y Chemistry student, Leo Faleiro. All the participants were asked to fill in a feedback form and were issued certificates for their participation. The Feedback for the same has been noted to be positive, highly informative and appreciative.
