Poster Making Competition

On the occasion of International Microorganisms Day, celebrated globally on 17th September, the Department of Microbiology, in collaboration with MBSI (Microbiology Society of India), organized a Poster Making Competition at St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim-Goa. The event aimed to foster creativity and scientific curiosity among students while highlighting the importance of microorganisms in our lives and in medical science.

The competition was divided into two categories to encourage participation from students across different grades. Students of Grades VI and VII created posters on the theme “Microorganisms and Us: A Delicate Balance,” depicting the dual nature of microorganisms,
both beneficial and harmful as well as the fragile equilibrium between coexistence and conflict.

Meanwhile, students of Grades VIII to X showcased their artistic and scientific skills on the theme “Microorganisms and the Future of Medicine,” focusing on the crucial role of microbes in medical discoveries, from antibiotics to cutting-edge biotechnological therapies.

Participants were required to hand-draw and colour their posters, ensuring originality and relevance to the given themes. Each entry was evaluated based on creativity, scientific insight, and adherence to the theme. The event received enthusiastic participation from students, who presented visually appealing and informative posters reflecting their understanding of microbiology’s relevance to everyday life and the future of medicine.

The competition was coordinated by Ms. Arzoo Mulla (Event In-charge) under the guidance of Dr. Aureen Gomes (Faculty Coordinator, MBSI). The students were awarded prizes for their entries.
The winners of the competition were:

Category 1: VI and VII
First Place: Anushka Ghadigaonkar
Second Place: Pranali Gurav
Third Place: Atharav Lad

Category 2: VIII to X

The event successfully combined science and art, enhancing students’ appreciation of microorganisms’ profound impact on the environment, health, and innovation. It served as a meaningful tribute to International Microorganisms Day, inspiring young minds to view the microbial world with curiosity.
