Rangoli Competition
The Department of Microbiology in collaboration with MBSI, organized a Rangoli Competition on 18th August, 2025 in the College Seminar Hall. The event was held for B.Sc. students of St. Joseph Vaz College with the aim of promoting artistic expression and scientific understanding through the creative medium of rangoli.
The event saw a spirited participation from numerous B.Sc. students, showcasing their talent and creativity. Participants were given one hour to complete their artwork. The central theme for the competition was “Bioremediation,” requiring participants to create rangolis that visually represented this process. Each entry was limited to a maximum of three participants, ensuring a collaborative effort. The designs were required to be created within a circle of a 1.5 ft radius.
The rules emphasized creativity, originality, and relevance to the theme, thereby ensuring that the students not only showcased artistic skills but also highlighted the importance of sustainable environmental practices. The event served as an innovative platform for students to integrate art and science, stimulating creative thought on pressing ecological issues.
The top performers were recognized for their outstanding work. Prizes were awarded to the winners, acknowledging their achievement. The three best entries from the competition were selected to represent the college in a National Level Competition.
For the undergraduate competition, the three best entries were by:
1st place – Namrata Lamani and Blessiya Lucas
2nd place- Komal Ghanchi and Sanjana Sharma
3rd place- Andini Borkar and Shubhra Malvankar
The Rangoli Competition was a resounding success, effectively blending art and science. It provided a unique platform for students to demonstrate their understanding of complex scientific concepts in a visually appealing and accessible format.
