An awareness session titled “Stay Informed, Stay Safe: Decoding the NDPS Act for Young Minds” was conducted on 8th August at 2:30 PM in the St. Joseph Vaz College Seminar Hall. The programme, organised by the Red Ribbon Club in collaboration with the
Department of Library and the Value Education Committee, aimed to educate students on the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and the dangers of drug abuse.
The event began with an introduction, followed by Ms. Manali Acharya presenting the resource person, Mr. Roshant R. Parwar. The session was moderated by Mr. Xellion Gracias, RRC Convenor. Mr. Parwar addressed the major causes of drug consumption
among youth, such as traumatic experiences, family conflicts, depression, peer pressure, media influence, and easy accessibility.

While acknowledging their medical uses, he stressed their misuse is harmful and illegal. He outlined government powers under the Act, prohibitions on cultivation, production, possession, and sale without proper authorisation, and penalties for offences based on quantity, including imprisonment, heavy fines, and incertaincases,thedeathpenaltyunderSection31A.The session also highlighted the role of the Narcotics Control Bureau and introduced plants such as coca, cannabis, and poppy.
