Inter College Table Tennis

On July 29th and 30th, 2025, the college Men’s and Women’s Table Tennis teams participated in the Inter-Collegiate Tournament organized by Goa University. Both teams underwent a dedicated 7-day practice period in preparation. Team selection was based on intramural performance, with the top three performers securing automatic spots. The remaining two positions on each team were filled by students demonstrating a strong willingness to learn the sport.

The Men’s team, comprising Sanford Dias, Melfran Dias, Veron Rocha, Aman Thakur, and Divyaksh Gowda, faced MES College, Zuarinagar in their first-round match on July 29th. Unfortunately, the team encountered a tough challenge. Melfran Dias lost his opening match 3-0. Sanford Dias fought valiantly in a closely contested encounter but ultimately lost 3-2. Veron Rocha provided a highlight by winning an exciting match 3-2. However, Melfran Dias, playing again in the fourth match, lost 3-1, resulting in the team’s elimination from the tournament.

The Women’s team, consisting of Sheraine Andrade, Seimoon Khazi, Srushti Naik, Tanuja Dodamani, and Anusha Naik, competed on July 30th. They faced a formidable first-round opponent in title contenders St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa. Despite their efforts, Sheraine Andrade lost her match 3-0. Seimoon Khazi and Srushti Naik also lost their respective matches 3-0, leading to the team’s defeat in the first round.

It is commendable to note that all participating students developed their table tennis skills entirely after joining the college, demonstrating significant dedication. They consistently practice throughout the year during their free lectures to hone their abilities. The teams received valuable training and guidance from Mr. Infancio Correia, Instructor in Physical Education, and Dr. Elroy
Pinto, College Director of Physical Education and Sports.

While both teams were eliminated in the first round, their participation represents a valuable learning experience. Veron Rocha’s victory and Sanford Dias’s close match in the Men’s section highlight individual potential and fighting spirit. Facing strong opponents like MES College, Zuarinagar and St. Xavier’s College provided crucial exposure. The commitment shown by these relatively new players, developing their skills through college practice, is highly praiseworthy.

The college extends its gratitude to the management for the opportunity and to Mr. Correia and Dr. Pinto for their dedicated support. This experience underscores the potential within the college table tennis program and the importance of continued training and support for future development.
