Kabaddi Workshop - "Train Like a Pro"

Objective of the Workshop:
The primary objective of this 3-day practical workshop was to introduce students to the sport of Kabaddi, focusing on building fundamental skills, improving teamwork, and strengthening strategic understanding of the game. The workshop aimed to provide a comprehensive learning experience under the guidance of an expert coach, enabling participants to learn, practice, and perform the core aspects of the sport.

Attendance:
A total of 10 students attended and successfully completed the 3-day workshop. The participants represented various departments within the college, demonstrating a wide interest in the sport.

Day 1 (August 13, 2026) – Introduction & Basic Skills:
The workshop commenced with a welcome address by the Department of Physical Education & Sports. The Resource Person, Mr. Aditya Velip, introduced the participants to the history, rules, and fundamental techniques of Kabaddi. The session began with a dynamic warm-up, followed by a focus on the core skills of the game. Participants were trained in the proper technique of the “Cant” (the continuous chanting required during a raid), the “Toe Touch,” and basic leg and body movements for both raiding and defending. The session concluded with practice drills to reinforce these foundational skills.

Day 2 (August 14, 2026) – Defensive & Offensive Strategies:
The second day was dedicated to understanding game strategy. Mr. Velip divided the session into two parts. The first half focused on offensive strategies, teaching participants advanced raiding techniques such as the “Hand Touch,” “Kick,” and "Running Hand Touch,” along with the art of escaping the defender’s hold. The latter half of the session focused on defensive techniques, including ankle holds, thigh holds, and wrist holds. Participants practiced forming a strong defensive chain and coordinating with teammates to successfully tackle the raider.

Day 3 (August 17, 2026) – Game Play & Application:
The final day was designed for the practical application of the skills learned. The session began with a thorough warm-up and recap of the previous two days. The participants then engaged in a series of friendly matches. Mr. Velip acted as the referee and coach, providing real-time feedback, correcting techniques, and guiding the players on court positioning and tactical decision-making. The workshop concluded with a cool-down session, followed by a Q&A round where students clarified their doubts about rules and gameplay. The event concluded with a vote of thanks to the Resource Person for his invaluable coaching.
