National Reading Month

The department of library at St. Joseph Vaz College, Cortalim in collaboration with NDLI Club, celebrated the Reading Month from 19th June to 18th July 2023, as a tribute to late P.N. Panicker, a trailblazer and visionary leader who played a pivotal role in promoting literacy. The primary objective of this initiative was to foster a vibrant reading culture among the students. The event aimed to inspire and motivate students to adopt reading as a lifelong passion and explore diverse literary genres. Weekly activities included taking a Reading Pledge, book exhibitions, emphasizing the importance of reading newspapers, magazines, and journals, and exploring the Literary Kaleidoscope.

Taking a Reading Pledge focused on committing to reading for 30 minutes daily, fostering personal growth and expanding knowledge. Book exhibitions showcased a diverse collection of books, encouraging students to engage in meaningful conversations and make informed decisions about their reading preferences. Awareness sessions highlighted the importance of reading newspapers, magazines, and journals, promoting critical thinking and global issues.

The last week concluded with exploring the Literary Kaleidoscope that allowed students to engage in independent reading, exploring diverse genres and periodicals, and sharing their thoughts and recommendations through google forms to the library department. These interactive discussions fostered communication skills, critical analysis abilities, and appreciation for different literary viewpoints. Overall, the Reading Month celebration at St. Joseph Vaz College was a success in fostering a love for reading and promoting critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills.
